Clash of the Doomsday Cults
For those of us still clinging to some semblance of rational humanity, few things could be more disturbing — or, at least from my perspective in Limbo, more predictable — than the prospect of the world being caught up in a domino chain of competing doomsday cults.
That is where we appear to be headed as I write, with the cult of Donald Trump, a narcissistic moron whose every action (or rather reaction) is an overcompensation for emotional insecurity and intellectual incompetence, facing down the cult of the Iranian mullahs, who literally believe it is their divine political mission to usher in the end of the world, in order to call forth the Umpteenth Imam, or whatever.
In short, the Iranian leadership does not care if current events escalate to cataclysmic proportions, and in fact might welcome this outcome. The American leadership — at least the decisive part of it in this age of runaway presidencies — has nothing but vanity and fear of shame in its sights, and the blindly worshipful support of tens of millions of citizens who have sold their minds and hearts to this uncreatively destructive infantilism.
God bless us, everyone. And now I’m off for a nature walk with my wife, because that’s the sort of thing I like to do when mankind sickens me, which is increasingly often these days.
