Republicans Stay Right On Target

The Republicans in the House of Representatives have elected their Minority Leader for the new congress. They have chosen current House Majority Leader, John Boehner’s underling Kevin McCarthy of California. He is not a conservative. He is not articulate. He is not a leader. He is not a statesman. He is not principled.

In other words, the Republicans have chosen to stay the course: They will remain the Democratic socialists’ chief aiders and abettors, and the practical means of suffocating the conservative minority of Americans, in and out of politics, who might, in theory, make a difference to the nation’s current trajectory, were they not forever burdened with the albatross of being aligned with an establishment faction that overtly despises them.

Why, you ask, does this conservative minority in America continue to burden itself with such a suicidal alliance?

Why does Charlie Brown come back to kick that football Lucy is holding for him year after year?

There is a seemingly innate desire for defeat that resides deep in the heart of some people, in direct defiance of those same people’s sincere and earnest craving for victory, change, or at least a reason to hope. They crave these things…but they also wish to fail. They are sincere in their quest…but they will never do the thing most obviously needing to be done. They know the status quo will resist them forever…but they knowingly, willingly choose the status quo, and then lament the results.

Lucy is there, waiting for them with her predictable insistence that this year will be different.
